What is your favorite part about celebrating the holidays? The Christmas decorations, the good food, the Christmas lights… there is so much to love and enjoy about the holiday season! Christmas traditions with a special meaning are probably my favorite thing about the season.

As you get older, move out, get married, and have children of your own, it’s important to start your own traditions for the holiday season. They are special and create something to look forward to during the holidays.

Brett and I love to carry on the same traditions we had growing up alongside the new ones that we have started. Everyone has a great time indulging in traditions that remind them of their childhood as well as the news they have made for themselves and their family.

What is a Tradition?

Tradition can be defined as “a long-established custom or belief that has been passed on from one generation to another”.

To me, a tradition is something you do every year with your family. It’s something that you look forward to, and it brings your family closer together.

You will pass a tradition down through your family and generations after you.

Traditions can be passed down through your family which to me, means you are keeping those before you alive through the traditions you share.

Why Should I Start a Tradition?

Starting a new tradition can be special. A new Christmas tradition can be special for your family, and for years to come.

It’s something that you get to share with your family and nobody else.

Think of something that you want to do and share with your family every year, and start a new tradition!

Our Travel Christmas Tree Tradition

I, Catherine, used to work with a sweet girl who once told me a story about her family’s travel tree. It was a themed Christmas tree dedicated to ornaments from all their favorite places they had traveled together.

I instantly fell in love with this idea because Brett and I love to travel! At the time, we were only dating but we still loved to travel together and knew we wanted to do even more in the future. We were becoming travel lovers together.

I knew collecting travel Christmas ornaments was a tradition I wanted to start together. We would buy a new ornament whenever we travel somewhere new together. There have been a few times we have traveled somewhere separately, but we only get an ornament when it’s somewhere we go together.

Brett and I have been married a little over seven years, and we dated for about two years before we got married. During this time, we have collected themed ornaments from all the places we traveled or visited together. Whether it was somewhere near or far, we found the right ornament for us. We have ornaments from the United States as well as different countries, and we love them all. Our travel ornaments are some of our favorite finds to bring home with us.

We’ve even had some people gift us ornaments to some of our favorite places! I have several Eiffel Tower ornaments because Paris is one of my favorite cities!

Having a themed tree and collecting travel ornaments may be a tradition for many, and we decided to start this tradition because it was special to us.

We both grew up with family traditions and wanted to start one of our own. Whether doing something on Christmas morning, Christmas day, or throughout the holiday season, I believe traditions are important for families to have. Traditions can be passed down through your family which to me, means you are keeping those before you alive through the traditions you share.

They are also the best part of the holiday season and I love having them to look forward to every year!

Since starting this tradition, we look forward to seeing our themed Christmas ornaments every year.

Since starting this tradition, we look forward to seeing our themed Christmas ornaments every year. My favorite part of the Christmas season is putting up our Christmas tree and putting on our favorite ornaments. It brings a little bit of excitement to each of our faces when we see ornaments from all the fun places we have been together.

Growing up, decorating the tree was my favorite thing to do. It’s a great way to get into the holiday spirit. Now, decorating the Christmas tree is even more special to me!

Every year, I am reminded of the family vacations, special trips, spontaneous outings, and the travel memories we have shared so far. Sometimes I am even surprised by all the wonderful memories we have made.

Once the tree is up, we can sit on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate and admire the decorated Christmas tree. This tradition is a wonderful way to be reminded of what we have started together and the love, joy, and adventure we share throughout the year. I love being reminded of those special times with my husband.

I hope you think about traditions this year. Start a new family tradition with your spouse or think about passing along a family tradition to your small children that they can enjoy for many years. Whether it’s something you do throughout the holiday season, or save something special for Christmas Eve, decide on a tradition that will bring your family together and share the joy of the holiday season.

Until next time and Happy Holidays,
