Georgia in the Fall: Bucket List Ideas You’ll Love

The fall season is here, and there are so many fun things to do! Brett and I love to explore our home state of Georgia, and we have found many fun activities to enjoy during the best time of the year! There are plenty of ideas to add to your fall bucket list this year. 

Grab a coat, the whole family (or make it a date night), and let’s have some fall fun. 

Georgia Fall Bucket List Ideas

There’s nothing like enjoying the beautiful fall weather, eating some yummy foods, and spending time with the people you love the most. It’s what makes fall such a beautiful and magical season.

Let’s talk about some of the best places and most fun things to do during the fall season! 

Enjoy the fall foliage

When the leaves begin to change color is the perfect time to spend time outdoors. Take a walk, scenic drive, or enjoy the view from your home. Whatever way you do it, the fall foliage is beautiful to see. 

Spend the weekend in a cabin

We love cabin life. Nothing beats spending a weekend in a cabin somewhere in the mountains. We prefer the Blue Ridge Mountains, but there are many options in Georgia. 

Attend the fair

We love to attend our local county fair. We mostly go to the fair for the food vendors and to see the animals, but something just feels so enjoyable about being at the fair! 

If you want to experience an even larger fair, visit the Georgia National Fair, located in Perry, Georgia. It begins on October 2nd and goes through the 12th. For more information, visit their website

Attend a fall festival

There are always a lot of fun fall activities going on in our town during the fall season. Find a fall festival near you to attend and have some fun!

Decorate for fall

Who doesn’t love to decorate for fall? There’s no better way to make your home feel cozy and warm than decorating for fall, adding fall scents, and pulling out more pillows and blankets! 

Carve pumpkins

It’s so exciting to pick the design, carve your pumpkins, and see how they turn out. 

Visit the pumpkin patch

Visiting the pumpkin patch is so much fun! We love to find the perfect pumpkin for each other to carve, and then a few to decorate our porch with. 

Go apple picking

This is definitely one to mark off your bucket list! We live close to several apple orchards. It can be fun to pick your own apples, then take them home to eat or make something yummy from them!

Enjoy getting lost in a corn maze

We have done corn mazes a few times. They really are fun to do, especially with some friends. It’s always fun to see who is directionally challenged, lol!

Attend Fright Fest at Six Flags

Fright Fest at Six Flags Over Georgia will run from September 13- November 2, 2025. If you enjoy getting scared plus amusement park rides, then this event is for you!

Bake Cookies

Who doesn’t love to smell cookies baking in the oven once the cooler temperatures hit? Warm, cozy, and delicious!

Bake a pecan, pumpkin, or apple pie

The same goes for baking pies. Who doesn’t love it?! The best part of fall is all the yummy and enjoyable foods! 

Attend the Georgia Apple Festival in Ellijay, Georgia

Speaking of apple picking, there is an entire event dedicated to apples in Elijay, Georgia! 

Enjoy delicious food, fun, and apples two different weekends- October 11th and 12th, and then again October 18th and 19th, 2025.

Spend a day at Burt’s Farm in Dawsonville, Georgia

A day at Burt’s farm is the perfect way to spend a beautiful fall day. They have a large pumpkin patch, a hayride, and a store to shop in daily. 

Go to a haunted house

Haunted houses aren’t really our thing, but many people enjoy getting spooked! If this is something you enjoy, visit a haunted house for the evening and have some fun with your friends!

Visit Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge, Georgia

We are always down for a trip to visit Mercier! It’s such a fun experience. Go apple picking, enjoy wine tasting, or indulge in one of their homemade fried apple pies!

No matter what you do at Mercier, it’s always worth the trip. 

Attend Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is full of exciting traditions, activities, and fun! 

Oktoberfest in Helen, Georgia, begins daily September 25 – November 2, 2025. You can find out more information by visiting their website!

Go Hiking

There is no better place to embrace the beauty of fall than being outdoors. Soak up the fresh air and beautiful fall colors by spending some time in the woods. 

Go Camping

​The cooler weather always reminds me of when I would go camping as a little girl. It can be a great time to connect and bond with your family over the campfire and make s’mores! 

Attend Taste of Atlanta

This is an exciting event that allows you to taste food and drinks from 20+ restaurants in the Atlanta area. Enjoy good food, drinks, and entertainment for an evening out.

Enjoy a bonfire and s’mores

We love to have a good bonfire in the backyard when the weather cools down and we have some friends over.

Roasting marshmallows, cooking hot dogs, and making s’mores is always a fun idea! 

Visit a state park

Georgia state parks are so beautiful. They are even more beautiful when the leaves change color. State parks are a great place to go hiking (many have miles of trails), have a family picnic, and learn about the history of the state of Georgia.

Roast pumpkin seeds

After you go pumpkin picking and carve your pumpkin, be sure to save all the seeds you carve out. You can wash them off and roast the pumpkin seeds in the oven for a tasty snack. 

Have a cookout

If you live in the South, you know how much we love a good cookout. Invite your family and some friends over to enjoy an evening of grilling out, playing cornhole, and enjoying each other’s company. 

Stone Mountain Pumpkin Festival

The pumpkin festival features entertaining fall activities along with the traditional activities of Stone Mountain Park. 

The Pumpkin Festival begins September 13- November 2, 2025, running Friday to Sunday.

Enjoy a ride down a back road

Taking a ride down country back roads during the fall is so beautiful. Watching the leaves change colors throughout the drive makes you slow down and appreciate the simple beauty of the season.

Make apple cider

Making homemade apple cider (or hard cider) is really easy, and it tastes so yummy!

Make chili

Chili is a staple for cooler weather. Put on a pot of chili while enjoying a day at home with your family. 

Attend the Goldrush Festival in Dahlonega

Dahlonega is a cute little town nestled in the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains. The Goldrush festival is a huge event that they have every year. There will be a lot of vendors, food trucks, activities for the kids, and fun for the whole family!

Attend the Savannah Food and Wine Festival

​A great way to enjoy the weekend is to spend it trying new food and good wine! You can do that at the Savannah Food and Wine Festival.

Attend Tybee Island Pirate Fest

How exciting is it to be a pirate for the weekend? Enjoy Pirate Fest with live entertainment, music, food, and more!

Go to a flea market

One of the best ways to spend a Saturday is by treasure hunting at a flea market! See what you can find at your local flea market to take home and give a new life!

Stargaze

You will want to bundle up for this one! Stargazing is such a fun activity. It’s amazing to see the stars and planets and think of a world outside of our own! 

Georgia Mountain Festival

Fall festivals are always a blast to attend. The Georgia Mountain Festival is a huge event! It has a carnival, great food (hello, funnel cakes!), music, fun attractions, and more. This is definitely an event to mark off your bucket list. 

The Georgia Mountain Festival takes place in Hiawassee, Georgia, October 1018, 2025. 

Go on a hayride

There’s no better time to go on a hayride than the fall season. The crisp air, being pulled through a hay field, and enjoying the company of your family.

Go on a bike ride

If you enjoy bike riding, the fall is such an amazing time to go on a bike ride. You can ride through and take in the beautiful fall foliage.

Eat a caramel apple

Where are the Apple fans at? Eating a caramel apple is a must-do for your fall bucket list. 

Go to the zoo

Zoo Atlanta is much more enjoyable during the cooler weather. Have some family fun and plan a trip to the zoo this fall.

Enjoy a sunset

Sunsets are beautiful any time of the year, but we love seeing a beautiful sunset in each season. They’re all different and beautiful in their own way. 

Listen to Live Music

​It’s fun to sit around and listen to live music. Grab a bite to eat and drink somewhere, and enjoy some local live music. 

Take a ride on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway

Take a train ride on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. So far, we have only seen it during the springtime, but we hope to see it during the fall someday. The fall foliage, crisp air, and peacefulness of the mountains sure are enticing!

Visit Brasstown Bald

Visit Atlanta Botanical Garden

Atlanta Botanical Garden is the perfect place to see the flowers that bloom in the fall. It’s such a beautiful place!

Take a hike at Amicalola Falls State Park

The weather in the fall is perfect for hiking at Amicalola State Park. There is a beautiful waterfall that you can enjoy!

Enjoy football season

Friday and Saturday nights are for football this time of year! Get your friends and family together for a cookout, football, and enjoying each other’s company.

  1. I love this list! Fall in Georgia is such a perfect time to slow down and soak it all in. The foliage is gorgeous, and a cabin getaway just makes it even better—cozy, peaceful, and a great way to enjoy the season with loved ones.
